Overview

Claire Stancroff joined Williams, Williams, Rattner & Plunkett as an associate attorney after working as a law clerk for the firm during her final year at Wayne State University Law School.  Her practice areas include commercial litigation, transactional real estate and corporate work, and nonprofit.

Curious and disciplined, Claire has consistently sought out opportunities to gain new skills and experience through advocacy and action. After receiving her undergraduate degree in history and Spanish, Claire moved to San Jose, California, to serve as a student-mentor and tutor in an under-resourced middle school with the AmeriCorps program, City Year. She returned to her home state of Michigan and, following a final year with City Year Detroit, enrolled in law school.

During law school, Claire held a position as a student attorney for the Community Advocacy Clinic and participated in a faculty-led Directed Study. Here, she reviewed Detroit city ordinances and state legislation to encourage civic participation and government transparency. Claire also received the Ira J. Spoon Scholarship, an award granted to students based on outstanding achievement in their first-year Property course, sparking her interest in property law. As such, she augmented her coursework with a property class taught by WWRP’s own Rick Rattner and obtained a Legal Research Assistant position to investigate governmental action affecting property owners within Detroit.

Throughout law school, Claire also worked for several nonprofit organizations, including a clerkship at the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center and an externship with Michigan Legal Services. The latter allowed Claire to effectuate COVID-era tenant rent relief programs and aid in the implementation of Detroit’s newly enacted Right to Counsel ordinance.
